little mysteries

does anyone know how, exactly, the facebook friend finder works? cause it doesn’t make any sense to me. this morning*, while i was searching for friends from my old schools, i noticed something bizarre. i asked it to list people from My High School from 1997, and it duly gave me a set of names. but every time i went to the next bunch of names, the totals changed. check this out:

Displaying 101 – 110 of 150 people.

Displaying 131 – 140 of 183 people.
Displaying 141 – 150 of 192 people.

what is happening here? why is there a different search each time i look at new people?
